Commitment
to Service
The University of Michigan-Flint values students' contributions to
the community through service learning and volunteerism. Each
year, more than 750 students participate in university-sponsored
service projects, providing at least 14,000 hours of service in
the community. Many other students initiate their own service
activities through schools, churches and nonprofit organizations.
Service projects offer valuable benefits to both the community
and student participants. Critical community needs are met through
the talents and energy of student volunteers. At the same time,
service activities provide students with the opportunity to apply
class material, develop an understanding of diversity, gain career
experience, and make professional connections with local schools
and community organizations.
Students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to
service deserve to be recognized for their efforts!
Beginning in the 2001-02 academic year, students who have
completed the following service requirements will receive
recognition from the University of Michigan-Flint at graduation.
